Semiotics is the study of communication through signs. Signs are anything that stands for something other than itself. This is very important to visual communicators.  Designers use signs almost daily but we don’t normally stop to identify how they are classified within semiotics. Signs are used to convey a desired meaning to a specific audience. Different cultures and societies have systems and rules needed to create a desired effect. Understanding the how meaning is constructed and understood  is important to create a successful sign.


Vaccines build immunity against disease. Everyone should be vaccinated for their safety and for the public’s safety. There is a problem with parents not vaccinating their children. It is scientifically proven that vaccines are safe.
